    Nothing is going to change until Bush is out of office. I'm guessing that its not a coincidence that oil companies have enjoyed record profits under his watch while development and mass production of reasonable alternatives to gas-powered vehicles has gone nowhere.

    It's possible he's right.
    Also possible he's wrong.
    We were supposed to hit $4 two years ago. Still waiting.

    The sky is falling! We were supposed to be over $4 by Christmas, although today's news out of Pakistan doesn't help.

    If you think the economy is at the edge of the cliff now, gas at $3.75 a gallon is the 100-mph wind about to blow us over.

    I know the words "oil companies record profits" make people's blood boil.

    But there's really only one reason behind it: Record demand.

    And while Bush is at fault for a lot of things, he doesn't control how thirsty the world is for oil.
