It's easy, you study the game, you read about it. There's tons of books, newspaper articles, and a bit of footage on these guys. If you have interest in the sport, then you'll study the game.

I see a few problems. You have multiple players from the Yankees, Braves, and Giants, plus you have George Brett, a Kansas City Royal, which is not one of the original 16 teams. You aren't trying to just make an all-time team. You are trying to do so without repeating teams, and only using the original 16 teams from 1901-60.

There are a lot of rules on this thread.

How does that solve the problem? Ruth, A-Rod, Rivera, Henderson all played for the Yankees. Same thing with Mays and Bonds played for the Giants, and Maddux and Chipper played for the Braves.

I know you bended the rules, but I really like the make-up of your line-up starman. You have arguably the two best Home Run hitters of all-time in Ruth and Gibson, you have the best shortstop to ever play in the Negro Leagues in Pop.

Just a quick question though, why did you go with Smoky Joe instead of Satchel?

Ha. You assumed I read all of the silly rules and parameters you invented.

Well he also says "you bended the rules," so proper English doesn't appear to be a requirement.
