    Your heel turn fascinates me.

You're hung up on it not being independently confirmed ... and that's your standard for confirmation?

Aren't all facts supposed to be independently confirmed? How would you confirm it?
I could have given more examples - the ones I gave were just easy ones.
Over the winter David Price said he'd had racist stuff said to him while warming up in the bullpen. The quote ran unconfirmed. A couple weeks later Shaughnessy said he had a conversation with a bullpen cop who said he'd heard similar stuff.
That's all I'm looking for. If Jones was getting racist stuff thrown his way in a half-empty ballpark and he could hear it, wouldn't the LF or RF have been able to? Or the guys in the bullpen?
The story needs to be written even if you can't confirm Jones' statement, but writing the story as it happening as 100 percent fact is irresponsible from a journalism perspective.

Was confirmed by fans too who were interviewed by Deadspin. What's the plateau for confirmation? Everyone short of pumpsie green chimed in with an apology. It happened.

    Maybe they were Yankee fans.

"The Red Sox want to publicly apologize to Adam Jones and the entire Orioles organization for what occurred at Fenway Park Monday night,” the Red Sox said in a statement. “No player should have an object thrown at him on the playing field, nor be subjected to any kind of racism at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have zero tolerance for such inexcusable behavior, and our entire organization and our fans are sickened by the conduct of an ignorant few."

And the owner and team president met with Jones today to talk about and denounce the racism. Was that a hoax?

You left off the end of the statement that says "our review of last night's events is ongoing."

Deadspin had the peanut thrower. I couldn't find a link with fans who heard the slurs. You have a link?

Y'all think we can keep this to a reasonable journalistic discussion? Or has stuff like that passed this board on?

Sure. Let's discuss Albert Breer casting doubt on Adam Jones' story.

Can't trust the media these days.

Oh, for God's sake. The reason the Sox, the Mayor and everybody else assumed it happened was because it's happened there on a regular basis for at least 50 years. The burden of proof in this case is on Red Sox fans, not Adam Jones.

Lupica buries the important point way, way down, but he finds observers who confirm Jones' statement.
Adam Jones handled what happened at Fenway with grace.

Yeah, they said all the other stuff and met personally with Jones to denounce racist behavior for no reason at all.
