All fair points, Dick, and I think you're correct. I guess my issue is that Palin (and I hope you're sitting down for this bombshell) just expressed what she was saying so poorly and inartfully. She's trafficking in the stereotype of the crazy, damaged veteran. Her son committed a crime and she's holding him up, saying, "This is what war does to you." She's got no problem throwing all vets under the bus if it will deflect personal responsibility from her son.

The Obama part was just the typical kneejerk Republican reaction to any issue.
