And Reggie Bush. Don't forget that.

A lot of good college quarterbacks, who were great leaders and play-makers, never made it in the pros: Charlie Ward, Gino Toretta, Eric Crouch, Tommy Frazier, etc.

And if they tried to let him be Vince Young, the results might be worse.

So was Akili Smith, who went two pcks after Tim Couch in that draft. Neither's been in the league for a while. Being a high pick doesn't mean you'll be good in the NFL, especially QBs, whose adaptability to the pro game is often overrated. Teams are so scared to "miss" on a great QB that they'll draft guys on potential. But, more often than not, that's a disaster. There was never a reason to select Alex Smith No. 1 three years ago. But the 49ers bought into the hype of a "franchise quarterback" and look where that's gotten them.

You can't do that in the NFL. In college, the athleticism of the Vince Youngs of the world is almost always head and shoulders above everyone else on the field. In the NFL, there are so many great athletes on defense, you can't just can't hand the ball to a QB and say, "Make plays." If you do, chances are bad things will happen and, ultimately, that QB will get killed. Young is just the latest in a long line of QBs who has struggled to adjust to an NFL offense.

Having said that, Kerry Collins is awful, so the Titans are in a weird spot where losing a bad QB won't help them. But they've still got Fisher and solid defense, so they'll still be formidable.

Even if you hate Young like you do, you have to realize that's an insane comparision. None of those guys could have held a candle to what young did at Texas. Nobody ever saw the guys you mentioned and thought future star.

And Pallister: Akili Smith was a guy with one good year under his belt going to a horrible franchise. Ditto for Alex Smith. Vince Young won a national title and landed with one of the most stable franchises in the game.

A whole lot of guys have done a lot worse than Vince Young over their first two seasons and ended up pretty good. I'd be willing to bet Young makes these premature burials look foolish within a few years.

The Titans win because they have a solid defense, led up front by Haynseworth, arguably the best defensive tackle in the league. It's ridiculous how often he'll completely cave in the pocket by himself. They also have Vandenbosch coming off the end and creating havoc.

Offensively, they stay committed to the run and eat clock. They also have one of the league's best kicking duos in Nedney and Hentrich.

I don't always agree with Hondo, but yes, Young does not win them games. Jeff Fisher, defense and special teams wins them games. Bud Adams made Fisher draft Young and, for the most part, he's done as much as he could with him.

The only thing I don't like about Fisher is his inability to land big-time receivers. Then again, if you were a receiver, would you want to play with Young? Midway through the fourth quarter yesterday, receivers had two catches for nine yards. If he's not throwing a swing/screen pass or pass over to the middle to the tight end, he's embarrassingly inaccurate.

Vince Young's injury looked horrific. I thought the whole knee was done. He gets a month.
Brady looked like he slipped out of his hit before it got bad and he's done for the year.
    WTF. [fanboi looser]

Charlie Ward and Tommie Frazier were every bit the playmakers in college that Vince Young was. They both won national championships and Ward won a Heisman.

"911, what's your emergency?" Uh, could you help us find our quarterback?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vince Young is awaiting an MRI exam on his sprained left knee Tuesday, hours after the Tennessee Titans sought help in finding the quarterback described to police as “emotionally down.”
Young left his home around 7 Monday night without a phone, prompting the Titans to call Nashville police for help. The Titans were able to get a message to Young through a friend, and the quarterback met with coach Jeff Fisher and police at team headquarters around 11:30 p.m.
Police spokesman Don Aaron said Young drove himself home afterward.
The Titans said Tuesday that people close to Young called the team Monday night, concerned about his state of mind when he left his home. After Young met with Fisher, the team said in a statement that it considered the concerns “unfounded.”

At least Collins is dependable and will keep the Titans' boat floating until VY comes back. Besides, VY could learn a few things about maturity from Collins (from his days with Carolina).

VY has some serious issues right now and it's not looking good after hearing about what went down last night and Inky_Wretch posting the following story above.
