AAU hoops thumbsucker in the NYT

    I've never understood the "grass-roots" hoops movement - kids flying around playing for various teams across the country. I "get" kids wanting to play hoops and enjoying free gear - I don't understand how companies can get away with using them as defacto endorsers without the kid's amateur status being yanked.
