A high-character guy calls it quits

    Staying at Penn State is not a magic character litmus test. Did they look to leave at any point?

    I guess Hackenberg did, considering he's going into the draft. Breneman never considered it, from all I've been told.

    Sure it is. Nearly every other college football team has flashier uniforms.

    He missed his senior year of high school because of an injury and then got hurt again in spring ball after his freshman season. Who was going to have him?

    I'm not trying to knock the kid, he seems like a nice guy who has been dealt a tough hand, but staying at Penn State for three years when there's nowhere else to go might not be the dramatic even that's being cast here.
