10:15 p.m. Eastern tonight on TCM. One of the most underrated movies of all time. Andy Griffith as a hick-turned-meglomaniacal TV personality. Directed by Elia Kazan. If you haven't seen it, don't miss it.

Be alert for cameos by Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.

  2. Was Kazan one of those blacklisted from Hollywood for being a member of the Communist Party?

On the contrary, Kazan was one who supplied the McCarthy crew with names of those who were suspected communists. That's why there was so much controversy over his honorary Oscar a few years ago, and why some of the actors in the crowd refused to applaud him when he accepted it during the ceremony.

What mpc said. Spent the next 40 or so years trying to weasel out of it too. Still a great film by a great (if weasely) director.

I remember Ed Harris having a very stern look on his face ...

Amazing to think that those weasely bastards had enough pull to make anyone talk.
