On the contrary, I like soccer and I watch and cover MLS quite a bit. But the MLS fan base will always be limited if there's no chance players of the caliber of Messi or Ronaldo will play in the league. And if the players in the league are working toward the goal of moving up to a better league.

MLS is the Triple-A of soccer. Maybe even the Double-A. Minor leagues and minor league teams can build a following for sure, but they aren't overtaking the true big leagues in popularity.

Call me when MLS is ready to address that issue. Until then, its upside is severely limited.

Well, lacrosse does have penalty flags, so maybe it does have a shot.

Maybe Vince McMahon can start a league. That could boost interest.

In all fairness, Ruben, that business model you talk about could lead to an ugly lockout/strike ... very soon. Players in MLS aren't happy with lack of free agency and a cap/designated player system that keeps top talent from coming this direction.

EPL in America is already a much healthier television commodity. That tells us something.

They will eventually move into a different model but is working so far, it is a conservative model, they are playing it safe for now.

The new CBA is up ... right now. The strike/lockout would occur this year if it happens. I'm guessing something has to give, and quick.

History has shown that the model changes only when the players unionize or when the leagues are forced to through the courts. The MLS might want to get ahead of things before it spins out of their control.

It probably will, mls is generating more revenue so is fair for the players to ask for more money.

Ruben, you are just taking the bait...hook, line and sinker. There is a dedicated soccer thread here and that's about all you can do. :)
