Only place it was live this morning was Seattle from what I understand. And how do you play regular season games and come back to finish spring training? Fail in my book.

And it ended at around 5:45 local time ...

Agreed. How do you make it so most of the U.S. can't see the first game of the season live? Just awful.

I seem to remember ESPN or ESPN2 carrying the game when the Red Sox opened there a few years ago. But that's self-explanatory.

They carried the Yankees' opener over there in 2004, as well. But that was also A-Rod's pinstripe debut, not Oakland/Seattle, so there's a bit of a difference there. That might have been the first time they opened the season in Japan. It's also where Jason Giambi got his tapeworm or whatever the hell that was.

That they open the season in Japan in the middle of the night is dumb enough... but honestly... TAPE DELAY OF THE OPENING GAME OF THE BASEBALL SEASON?

    Just... unreal.

Also combined with the fact that Felix Hernandez is Felix Hernandez.

I think the 1999 2000 season also opened in Japan. Mets vs. somebody. I distinctly remember Benny Agbayani hitting a game-winning homer.

He still hasn't learned how to win. :)

McCarthy threw 82 pitches in seven innings? Normally to be that efficient you have to be facing the Giants' JV lineup.

Mariner hitters have a special approach. Hack away, see few pitches, keep Felix in rhythm.
