2011 Oscars running thread, aka "worst awards show ever?"

48 hours ahead of Los Angeles' version of the Super Bowl, and we know a few things.

    1. It's going to be butt-cold on the red carpet. There's talk of snow on the Hollywood sign coming overnight; while that won't happen (most likely), it's going to be about 48 or so degrees during the red carpet on Sunday.

    2. The media will care a helluva lot more than the public will about "the question everyone's asking" (according to one news tease I just saw): Will Banksy show? If you don't know who Banksy is, well, consider yourself squarely in the American mainstream. As for me, I know who he is, and I wish he was in jail along with the rest of the so-called artists who are destroying America's cities, one pen and paint tag at a time.

    3. A whole slew of show spoilers was released today by Nikki Finke. I like to be surprised, so I didn't read them. If you want to, you can, here:

NOTE: THERE ARE TONS 'O SPOILERS ON THIS LINK:

C'mon now. This is just stupid.

Also, most of Bansky's best work has been done 'destroying' British cities.

Sorry to offend your liberal mores (which I would usually share) but private property is private property.

Possible Banksy sighting near San Diego today:

Ah, yes...but he has also done pieces with permission and has commissioned traditional art.

Yep. And bank robbers sometimes have their own ATM cards and legally withdraw money.

I hope Banksy shows, but only if he is wearing a monkey mask.

I suspect it will be a moot point. Enough people are unconvinced about the authenticity of the documentary that he isn't going to win.

    "Authenticity?"

    The whole movie's a put-on.

Right. That is why I'm saying I don't think it's going to win.

EDIT: What I'm saying is that even the "put on" is a staged "put on."

Not exactly-it covers a history of street art, and then shows a social experiment that proves that if there's enough hype around something, people will pay obscene amounts of money for it.

So by that standard, yes, it's a documentary.
