You literally miss the whole wreck and impact if you blink at the wrong moment. If you don't already know what happened, you'd be sitting there asking, "Wait. What? What happened?"

Awful way to start the Olympics. NYT has photo on their home page:

That picture doesn't capture what happened. It looks like the luger is falling in, not being thrown out.

That's probably better. If it was on NBC, they'd be switching in and out the whole game. If they put it on cable, hopefully they'll just stick with it and show the whole game.

That was quick -- it's already gone.

NBC & the IOC must be prepared to protest anything posted to YouTube.

    IOC had it removed.

    So horrible...what a waste.

Some of these winter sports and just psychotically dangerous. I tried the luge track in Salt Lake, i think it took five years off my life.

    Horrible, horrible thing. RIP

And not to cast blame, but why weren't those poles padded? Or have a bigger wall or netting? Or heck, build the poles somewhere else?

And NBC better address the death within the first minute of their Opening Ceremonies instead of "We're beginning a huge party, and oh, by the way, someone from some strange country that shares a name with one of our states died today," or I'll lose what thimbleful of respect I'll have left for them.

The placement of those poles just seems fairly awful.

I'm guessing the luge competition is canceled in the next day or so.

I bet it's not. They'll delay it but they run it eventually.

OK, I *know* this is a stupid question, but ...

Don't they still have a track in Calgary?
Where was the Canadian team practicing?

    1. Yes they do.

    2. Today they would have been practicing at Whistler. There is no point - this close to the Games - in practicing on a track you aren't going to run on.
