I saw a photo of Burns in the newspaper this morning from one of his last public appearances in March, and I could barely recognize him. It certainly is a terrible disease. Rest in peace Pat.

Not only a great coach but also a tremendous personality. He was always fun to keep an eye on.

Stop the presses, folks - CTV has retracted its confirmation of Pat Burns' passing.

Well, he's right about the mayoral candidates. Rob Ford makes Mel Lastman look like Sir John A. McDonald.

What's wrong with that? If there's one thing Richard Peddie can speak about with authority it's how to make money hand over first, flogging mediocre entertainment like the Leafs and especially Toronto FC.

Lord knows their teams have struggled, but everything they touch off the ice or field or court turns to gold, that huge bar they just opened next to the ACC was named the best sports bar in North America by ESPN. Leaf fans have no shame when it comes to supporting a dud franchise and somehow they have convinced drunken soccer fans that a Toronto FC game is really like going to watch one in England, without the same product quality.

There's no doubt in my mind there is way more direction on the business side of MLSE than their is in the sports management (or the City of Toronto for that matter) and in that respect Peddie has done his job.

    Sirs, Madames,

Or Betty White who was dead and then did SNL.

Like Franco. Not James and not Harris but the original.

The best thing that ever happened to MLSE's bottom line was the salary cap. The team doesn't get any better, people still buy tickets, merchandise and condos and MLSE pockets about an extra $30 million each year. I hope Richard Peddie gives thanks to Gary Bettman every night before he goes to bed.

The second best thing that's happened to the Leafs is Brian Burke because he doesn't allow guys like Peddie to meddle in the sports side of the business.

Bruce Boudreau's TV ad may be the worst ever by anyone involved in hockey. Worse than even those Penguin ads.
