    How many rounds are they going to complete today? 1? 2? 3?

    Granted, some of these players only had a cup of coffee, so we're not necessarily talking about sustained MLB careers here. And with first-rounders, there's pressure to get something out of the investment so teams might hold on to these players longer or give them a shot at the bigs where they might not for a fifth-rounder.

    And some others -- J.D. Drew, notably -- were redrafted after they didn't sign the first time, and made it to the majors with a different organization. Or, of course, there's the Josh Hamilton route to the bigs (which, uhh, I wouldn't advise. :D)

    Baseball's a funny game.

    The Pirates do well enough at making themselves look foolish without any help from Matt Wieters.

    I liked the Brewers picking up Odorizzi in the sandwich round. With that many picks, I'm glad they took a chance on a high-upside pick.

    Anybody else using this MLB.com Draft Tracker thing? It's been stuck on No. 46 for a long time. Is that because there's a break before the second round, or because this thing sucks?

    So the Phillies drafted a SS and a LF. Are they trying to send some kind of message to Jimmy Rollins and Pat Burrell?

    I know that, buck ::)

    These players could be groomed to take their spots in a few years and I know Rollins has a few more left on his deal. Burrell's contract is done after this year, so what the Phillies might do is resign him for a year or two and groom the LF like they did with Ryan Howard.

    I can agree with you on that, but I just find it interesting that Philadelphia would draft a SS and a LF with its first two picks. Even though they won't be MLB-ready for several seasons, I would still like to see their explanation behind it.

    In other news, Lenny Dykstra's son just got picked by the Brewers.

    Lee was never in the Phillies' plans, even during that trade. They were looking for some toss-ins once they found the deal for Schilling. Wade wanted to get something back for him and he got Lee with Figueroa, Padilla and Daal. Lee had maybe one good year for the Phillies and Padilla pitched well enough. Figueroa and Daal were wastes. The Phillies always overvalued trades, especially when Gillick wanted to get rid of Abreu and got a bunch of nothing in return.
