Despite the best efforts of the Irish Christian Brothers & the Jesuits, I'd be unemployable without spellcheck.

(Although I think I've gotten better since participating on this board.)

Anyway, how many of these words can you spell correctly? No cheating.

    1. ass-uh-9
    2. brag-uh-doe—C-O
    3. rare-uff-I
    4. lick-wuff-i
    5. puh-vill-yun
    6. ver-mill-yun
    7. im-pah-stir
    8. mock-uh-sun
    9. uh-komuh-date
    10. kon-sen-sus
    11. roe-ko-ko
    12. tittle-8
    13. sack-ruh-lijus
    14. may-uh-naze
    15. im-pray-sorry-O
    16. in-ock-U-late

    I'd fail.

    Badly.

Some of these pronunciations are wack. I can't understand a couple of these words. Have no idea what Nos. 3, 11, 18 or 19 are supposed to say. And I know I missed No. 20; hate that word.

    1. ass-uh-9 -- asinine
    2. brag-uh-doe—C-O -- braggodocio
    3. rare-uff-I -- ?
    4. lick-wuff-i -- liquify
    5. puh-vill-yun -- pavilion
    6. ver-mill-yun -- vermillion
    7. im-pah-stir -- imposter
    8. mock-uh-sun -- moccasin
    9. uh-komuh-date -- accomodate
    10. kon-sen-sus -- consensus
    11. roe-ko-ko -- ?
    12. tittle-8 -- titillate
    13. sack-ruh-lijus -- sacrilegeious
    14. may-uh-naze -- mayonnaise
    15. im-pray-sorry-O -- impresario
    16. in-ock-U-late -- inoculate
    17. sooper-seed -- supercede
    18. obly-gahto -- ? (obligato, I'm assuming)
    19. dessuh-Kate -- ? (desecrate, I'm assuming)
    20. re-sussuh-tate -- resusitate

Buck! You have to edit your answer. You'll ruin it for everyone.

The pronunciations are a little wack, but I'm not sure how else you could do a spelling test on paper (or the web).

    Btw:

    3 - to make rare
11 - a style of 18th century French art and interior design

Buck, my guess is that 11 is Rococo, a type of 18th century French art. Number 3, I believe, is rarefy, as in rarefied air.

Edit: Looks like according to YankeeFan that those two guesses are correct.

Yeah, looks like 3 could be one of two words.

Buck: I think No. 3 is rarefy ... as in "to make less dense." (I admit I pulled out a dictionary)

Only time I can think of it being used is when people refer to the "rarefied" air of the mountains.

(Isn't that a slogan for Busch beer?) :)

    Well, there you go.

Rarefy is what came to mind as a possibility after I had already posted. Didn't want to go back and edit, though.

So is it rarify or rarified? And if it's rarify, is it rarify or rarefy? :D

    Isn't it rarify?

    resuscitate
