  1. Phil stands alone atop the leaderboard, -6 thru 14.

I wouldn't care if the shot went 30 yards out of bounds if just once in my life one of my irons could make that whiplash sound on contact these guys get. PS: Phil's -7 now with a birdie putt on 17.

    Looking at a 63?

He's looking at 62 now if he can hit the green from the rough on 18.

The only thing that would have been better is if he would have made it, and Miller would have taken a header out of the booth.

Golf Channel ran a graphic on the other guys who've shot a 63 in the Open. Can't remember all the names, but I do remember none of them won that particular Open. Last was McIlroy in 2010, and of course he shot 80 the next day.

Let's set 79 1/2 as the over-under for Phil tomorrow. You want the over?

No, he's playing too solidly for that. But I could see a rain and wind-driven 76 or 77.

Most importantly it spares us Patrick Reed as the leader.

Would Lefty winning this weekend be on par with Nicklaus in '86?

    No.

As an accomplishment it might be, but the way Jack came back from the pack on the back nine to win sets '86 apart.
