My niece turned 6 today.

I got her pink Nike sandals.

Her mom got her a cell phone.

In a way I understand how handing a child a cell phone is a good idea. There are emergency situations. There are also times when you might need to get a hold of your child.

I also see how the existence of one allows the child more privacy than the parents should allow.

It is quite a double edged sword.

There are cell phone which only allow you to call one or two numbers, which would take care of the safety concern.

I'm shocked by how many kids under 12 have cell phones. What do they need them for?

I saw that Disney has a thing now that lets you allot minutes to kids and track them as well via cell phones.

That would be kinda interesting.

Six seems young.

I got my first cell phone a few months ago, at about six times the age of your neice. It's the only phone I own, and I don't pack it anywhere. forking cell phones are the worst technological invention ever. Do your neice a favor and smash that phone. Six years old? Christ.
