Warner Bros. is close to setting Anne Hathaway to star alongside Steve Carell in "Get Smart," the feature adaptation of Mel Brooks and Buck Henry's sitcom creation. Peter Segal is directing.

Shooting will begin in March. Village Roadshow is co-financing.

Hathaway, who last starred in the summer sleeper "The Devil Wears Prada" and "Brokeback Mountain," will play the role originated on the small screen by Barbara Feldon.

Carell will play the Smart role originated by Don Adams.

Pic is produced by Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar and Mosaic Media Group's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner.

Tom Astle and Matt Ember ("Failure to Launch") wrote the most recent draft of the script.

Carell, who most recently wrapped the Tom Shadyac-directed Universal comedy "Evan Almighty," is currently starring for Disney in "Dan in Real Life." He returns to his NBC sitcom "The Office" in January and once he wraps the season, reports for "Get Smart" in March. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117954304.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

IMDB already has Carell in the spot but not Hathaway. She'd be good, though.

Never mind all this. There's a more important question...

When in the $@@#^&** is the original series DVD coming out?

darn, Barbara Feldon was hot.

"get smart" was my absolute fave in the late '60s-early '70s. ;D ;D ;D

But who are they getting to play The Chief and Agent 44 (the one always hiding in odd places)?

And birdscribe ... http://www.wouldyoubelieve.com/dvd.html

Thank you, Inks.

BTW, that was Agent 13 (Robert Karvelas) who was always hiding in places like Coke machines, garbage cans and mailboxes.

A movie on a 60s or 70s TV show -- Brilliant!

It wasn't Robert Karvelas . . . he was Larrabee. Agent 13 was Dave Ketchum. And yes, my wife has been informed that the Get Smart collection is No. 1 on my Christmas list.

I think this was the same "academy" episode when Max and (maybe Larrabee?) spent about five minutes knocking an imaginary weapon from each other's hands.
