RIP Joe Williams

Coached a young Artis Gilmore and Jacksonville University to the 1970 men's basketball championship game, where the Dolphins got run over by UCLA.

But he got them there, and he did it the right way.

He coached Fessor Leonard and Clyde Mayes and some very good Furman teams too.

The guard on that JU team, Vaughn Wedeking (sp) died out here in Portland several years ago. I still think St. Bonaventure wins it all with a healthy Bob Lanier.

I saw a documentary about that Jacksonville team, maybe 5 years ago.

Anyone remember it?
