That doesn't matter at the P-D. I'm pretty sure Lee's fiscal year ends in October or September.

It has to do with holidays and vacations getting in the way of setting up interviews. You can't set up an interview if the people who need to interview the candidate are out of town for Christmas.
After four years leading our sports copy desk, Dave Luecking is moving a few feet across the newsroom to join the news copy desk, effective immediately.
For the time being, assistant sports editor Don Reed will handle scheduling and other administrative duties involving the sports copy desk and the slotting duties will rotate among Don and some of the very able copy editors on that team. We'll begin the process of selecting a new desk chief once we have a new sports editor in place.
