If you are into hip hop , Class of 1988 is interesting.

It's by Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff. They talk about rap around that time and talk with people it's a well produced show, not just some longform interview.

Will Smith comes across as human and more engaging than he has been portrayed.

Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. He played Lex Luthor on Smallville. Much of his content is interviews with actors, really good ones.



Wil Wheaton talks about his career, but also about his incredibly dysfunctional relationship with his parents. It's a good nerd interview, but Wheaton absolutely spills his guts about what his childhood was like and how he learned to face it. Much better interview than I'm making it sound.

Anyhow, he's got a couple of hundred episodes. He's a perceptive and aware in the moment interviewer.

Need some help, folks. I'm new to both my long drive to work and podcasts. I have about a 30-minute commute to work and back each day and need to find podcasts for both morning and afternoon drives. I'd like to find:

1 news podcast that's a little longer, maybe something to cover the entire drive. I'd like it to be a broad news podcast, rather than an in-depth look at one topic. I've been listening to Gordon Deal's show in the morning, but I'd like to see what else is out there. I sometimes get a bit bored with his format -- three or four headlines, and call in a Washington Examiner or Politico reporter to talk about their story. Not bad, but I'd like to find something more diverse. I feel like I'm trying to find a needle in a haystack with this one.

I'd also like to find the opposite for the drive the other way ... maybe something more in-depth. Doesn't have to be news.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Looking for a college football podcast.
I loved the College Football Enquirer with Wetzel, Forde and Thamel. Great mix with Wetzel as the cranky one, Thamel as information guy who seemingly talks to every assistant coach in the nation and Forde as a little of both. Wetzel is still strong. Forde just seems shriller and angrier. Thamel is gone and Ross Dellenger isn't a good replacement. I'm sure he's well-sourced reporter, but on a podcast he isn't interesting. He often repeats what the other hosts say and offers mostly obvious takes about things like schedules and "their offense is struggling." I'd like more strong information from a national podcast.

Caught a little of the Not Gonna Lie podcast by Kylie Kelcie. My goodness is she perfect for the format. I've heard "experienced broadcasters" do podcasts and they seem to fumble around a lot with the medium, not really have a plan - she's outstanding. Not sure its meant as a "newsy" show or anything, she comes across as everyone's best friend.

Yeah, they were both really good and I didn’t love Yates as much. But it was a great way to parachute into a sport or an issue for 20 minutes.

I have a couple of very good ones, even if they are a a bit niche.

"This is Vinyl Tap" This Is Vinyl Tap

A three man panel reviews albums nominated either by one of them or by a listener. They then talk about the artist, their connections to others who they have reviewed, then do a brief but detailed history of the musician/band. This is followed by playing a bit of every track on the album in order and discussing the strong and weak points, what they liked, etc. Ends with each editor assigning two ratings, one their personal score and the other their critical assessment.

They're from Austin, so there's a bit of a lean toward Texas country, but not oppressively so. I've heard them joke about the scarcity of listeners under the age of fifty (so probably a good fit here, lol), but they do rec at least one new artist/record each session. These sessions are pretty wide ranging, with many connections and trivia which are not obvious. Interesting cats.

I really like this one a lot. Don't let the Texas bit put you off, it's there but not overwhelming.



"The Legendarium" Home | LegendariumPodcast

Science Fiction and Fantasy book reviews. This one has run for years and has better than 350 episodes up, covering everything from stone classics like Asimov's "Foundation" and Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" to new books and writers. Extensive and well researched, with a bit of humor and a lot of insights. If you are a F/SF reader there will certainly be episodes on books you know or are interested in.

Either of these are excellent to have running in the background while you drive or work in the kitchen or some such. Many hours of excellent content if they fall in your sweet spot.


Both are up on Spotify and Apple, and likely wherever you source your pods.

Simple question. Is there a "definitive" Podcast chart similar to Billboard's Hot 100? Checking various lists on the web and they are all sorted based on Apple, Spotify, I Heart etc.
