I’m on the BBC app getting updates.

Honestly, massive power loss scares the **** out of me.

Only a matter of time until we see something similar that will rival or eclipse the Northeast & NYC outage of 2003. Surprised it hasn't happened since then.

I remember that blackout well. It was one of the few times that I was grateful that my nights off were during the week instead of the weekend. The newsroom staff had to work in the dark, then a lot of editors had to drive in the dark several hours to a sister paper that had a generator and put out that night’s paper.

The end times are here. Repent all ye faithful, or be struck down and cast into abomination.

Or, infrastructure.

I’m always ashamed to remember that an all-night power outage in Athens, Ohio, during college was one of the best nights of my life. There were 20,000 students all out walking around the town with flashlights in hand (I wish I’d had a good Nikon back then), people were sharing things, there were outdoor gatherings of people and for one night there seemed to be no guiding force or rules. It now seems like a dream.
