Long, but entertaining: Spider-Man 3

Saw it last night in IMAX.

If you have a choice, pay extra and see it in IMAX because the sound quality is fantastic. Danny Elfman's soundtrack should get an Oscar nom -- it really propels the story.

Early reviews about there being "too much love story" are mostly correct. But the villains are great, the fight scenes the best on film since Casino Royale (well, with the exception of 300), and there's plenty of laughs -- including at least two jokes that I simply didn't get (anyone caring to explain why the audience laughed when first seeing the Maitre d', feel free to IM me!).

2:20 in length but worth the butt-numbing, IMO.

Without looking up IMDB, I'm going to guess that Bruce Campbell played the maitre d. Sam Raimi puts Campbell, and the director's own 1973 Olds, in every movie. (Campbell was the wresting ring announcer in one, and was the "bouncer" who wouldn't let Peter into the theater in two.)

I'm sure I'll be seeing the movie this weekend with my Spiderman fanatic son. I'm looking forward to it. It sure beats the last movie I took him to -- "Are We Done Yet," which I started saying about five minutes in.

My daughter has talked me into taking her as soon as I have a free night. I'm working all weekend, though, so she may have to wait a week.

Hopefully that means the theatres will be less crowded.

Wow, all those villains and they managed to squeeze in too much love story? My fear is this is going to be like the third X-Men movie. Entertaining in its own way, but nowhere near the first two in the series because they tried to jam way too much stuff in.

I work at the local cinema and I'm working the midnight screening of SM 3 tomorrow. The kids (and some adults, I'm sure) coming in dressed as Spidey should be pretty entertaining. Already 200-300 tickets sold for midnight. I'm expecting this weekend to be the most busy since Pirates 2 came out last year. Past few weeks have been unbelievably dead, but this will change when the "movie season" officially begins with the release of SM 3 and very soon, Shrek 3.

I can predict what will happen when my wife and I see Spider-Man 3 this weekend. I start laughing the moment Campbell appears on screen. She elbows me and gives me and gives me a funny look. I try to explain later, but she gives me that, "Honey, I love you, but I really don't give a ship. Just be happy I went to see this with you" look.

It's all about the villains, especially once you get into sequels.

And yes, Bruce Campbell is the man. Best B-movie actor of our time and a crucial part of the Spider-Man movie mythos...just ask him. I talked to him once. Not sure he knows how to come out of "character," but a very cool guy with tremendous sense of humor.

I saw SM3 earlier...first impressions: really strong, fun movie. my favorite of '07 thus far, pashing 300, Grindhouse and Breach. Spidey's "badash" scenes are quite hilarious. Action is what you'd expect, which is top-notch and very frequent. Although the storyline has tons of characters and sideplots, it's a breeze to follow and the 2+ hours fly by. Sandman looks incredible visually; the Venom concept is solid, but used alot less than I would have liked. The movie's not as dark as I thought it'd be and instead has generally the same feel as the first two, which was a bit of a dissapointment. Bruce Campbell is great in his role and is featured in one of my favorite scenes in the movie. If you liked the first two, then you'll be sure to like this...
