Left. Right. In a box by the door.
Global recall. One hundred sixty-five thousand vehicles in the United States alone. Half-million-plus in China.

(T)he automaker discovered that sealer material leaked onto a coil wire inside the fuel pump relay on some of the vehicles. The wire can become brittle and snap, causing the engine to stall or fail to start.

Honda has received "multiple complaints" of vehicles stalling or failing to start, Martin said. There have been no injuries or crashes linked to the defect.

Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump relay free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in early April.

Owners can contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

So much for that sterling reputation.

Thankfully in my 17 years of owning Toyotas I've only had to deal with one recall... something to do with the airbag sensor.

It's a relatively minor problem affecting a relatively minor number of cars. And they're taking care of the problem. Doesn't seem this is the death knell for Honda quality.

Seven hundred thousand cars worldwide (including every 2005 Accord sold in the United States) is a minor number to you.

I see. I don't understand, but I see.

(Goes nicely with the half-million Accords, TLs and CLs recalled in June 2004 due to transmission issues.)

(And also the 600K SUVs and minivans recalled for transmission problems in April 2004.)

I drive a 2003 Odyssey. The transmission has failed twice in 150k miles. The second time it failed as a result of a bad computer control thingie that Honda recalled in 2004 in a recall that lasted for one year. We were never notified of the recall and when the part failed last month, causing the transmission to go again, Honda refused to pay for any part of the repair.

I am hoping to get at least another 50 thousand out of the car. We'll see.

My wife and I have owned two Civics and a CR-V and have never had one problem with any of them. Hope that keeps up -- we're buying a Pilot soon. Compared to the utter crap I've had with Fords and Chevys, I'll stick with my Hondas, thanks.

Honda and Acura sold about 2.5 million vehicles combined in 2005 and 2006. So a recall of 165,000 vehicles is less than 7 percent of the total. Relatively minor.

Not to threadjack, but every time I see the title of this one, I keep thinking it says Hondo quality...which of course would deserve a thread.
