Bigger story: Appy State or Boston no-hitter?

Left_Coast said:
Appy State is the bigger story by 3,000 miles.

Now ...

What if it was a perfect game?

There have been 17 perfect games. A I-AA (bite me, NCAA) has never beaten the fifth-ranked I-A (bite me, NCAA) team.

As a Sox fan, I say the Missagain upset.

Besides, it was more fun watching that with about 60 Penn State alumni (who ate up every minute of it) than watching the no-hitter alone in the apartment.

As much as I think the no-hitter is fantastic and as much of a college football "non-fan" as I am, you have to lead with Appalachian State's win. I dare any one on this board to find a bigger upset than this.

1980 Winter Olympics. Men's Hockey. USA over Russia.

ESPN led with the no hitter because it was fresh and new. The Appy State game was old news and had been beaten to death all day long.

Still, Appy State is the biggest story of the day.

And Junkie's right.

Dear God, people. How did you ever got jobs in NEWSpapers, if you don't know the answer to this question. I believe the root of NEWSpapers, might just be NEWS, and the root of NEWs but just be NEW. The football game ended at 3:30. Everybody knew about it by about 3:32. How many people, by the time SC started, knew about the no-hitter.

fork.

Ahem.

Hard to say.

A no-hitter is like a celebrity obit -- breaking news and a hot read.

But that Michigan loss was huge, too.

I'd strip the no-hitter across the top, since there have been three this year, and go large with the Michigan meltdown.

And if you're in Notre Dame territory, it gets harder. So I'd strip the no-hitter across the top, put Notre Dame as the display centerpiece and rail the Michigan with a good, bold hed. But if I can, I'd make a double-display package out of Michigan and Notre Dame both losing, if I'm in that neck of the woods.

Hockeybeat and Idaho excepted.
Thank you.

I think it was said before, but it bears repeating:
Mountaineer fans are not fond of "Appy State."
