Naw, this radio guy isn't lazy... (updated with admission)

In SC there's a couple message boards, Palmetto Football Talk and SCPrepTalk that people use. I used to be a statistician for my high school team and I called in scores every week. The last year I did it, there were two call-in shows. One was a statewide show that aired on about 20 stations...

Most Profound Thing I've Ever Heard At A College Softball Game

Softball at the college level, except for the major schools (Tennessee, Arizona, a few others) is usually a loss leader. You're lucky to get a couple hundred fans for most games. You never see softball highlights on our local news unless something major happens (like a perfect game). Baseball...

Weatherman sues TV station for hiring hotties

Here, all of our weather people are meteorologists. I can't remember the last person doing weather who was not.

    Dear dimwit on the phone

In our area, seventh and eighth graders used to be able to play JV football, but now they can't. Our local middle schools have an entire league just for them now. Other sports, you can play JV.

The stupidest thing your state high school association allows to happen

Another weird thing that South Carolina does: the 4A cheerleading semi-finals. They have Upper State and Lower State on separate days, one in Rock Hill (Upper State), and Lower State (on the west side of Columbia). Upper State has 23 schools competing, with the top 8 making it. In the Lower...

The stupidest thing your state high school association allows to happen

In South Carolina, they do that for the state finals, but the most any team has to play against each other is three games. For example, my HS baseball team played a team from another part of the state three times. Once they played on Saturday night, and the winner got to wait until Wednesday...

The stupidest thing your state high school association allows to happen

SC has 32 teams in 4A make it, 32 in 3A, all 48 in 2A, and 32 in 1A. 144 teams out of about 200 make the playoffs just in the public schools. SCISA, the private school division, lets even more teams in. 24 teams in 11-man football, 8 in 8-man. SCISA volleyball can be ridiculous. They hold...

The stupidest thing your state high school association allows to happen

Sorry to update this thread, but this year I'm sure you've got some tales about your area high schools. They changed the playoff system in our 2A regions so that every team in the state in that classification makes the playoffs, all 48 teams, split into two divisions. SC has more teams making...

    Spurrier slams Columbia writer

Well, the article talked about how Spurrier "poached" Bruce Ellington from the basketball program.

    Spurrier slams Columbia writer

Don't know if this is the right board, but South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier just slammed Ron Morris, writer at The State newspaper in Columbia, for writing an erroneous article about Bruce Ellington, who is the Gamecocks wildcat QB. Spurrier decided to leave the press conference until Mr...

    Question for SEC football historians

South Carolina has had this since they started in the SEC. They forced South Carolina and Arkansas, the two new teams, to face each other every year, even though they are more than 900 miles apart, almost 1000. South Carolina's crossover game until they changed the schedules in '01 was...

Putting articles just in print at first

My local newspaper (Charleston) has begun to put articles in print only. It started a couple months ago with just one or two articles in the weekend papers. Now they are putting at least one or more articles in print only almost every day, including some of their big-ticket stuff like the high...

    Emergency landing at Charleston airport

A couple of hours ago, there was an emergency landing of an American Airlines plane from Miami to Washington National at Charleston International Airport. At least 3 were hurt. http://www.live5news.com/story/15237625/plane-makes-emergency-landing-in-charleston

Are NASCAR announcers required to mention "Sunoco fuel"

Also, the Servicemaster Clean Caution, with the Servicemaster Clean Trucks. PRN is the worst offender of this. They very frequently have in-race interviews, sometimes more than one a race. You get the promoter from one of PRN's tracks, or some B-list country music star. The only tracks that...

    Ken Burger retiring

Ken Burger, the esteemed columnist at the Post and Courier in Charleston, SC is retiring to focus on traveling and his book business. He has been a P&C writer since 1984, back when it was a two-newspaper town. Before that, he worked 10 years in Columbia. Here is more info. His final article is...

Bruce Feldman suspended (Update: Moves to CBS)

Bruce Feldman, one of ESPN's best college football writers, was suspended from ESPN in a conference call this morning because of his involvement in Mike Leach's book. He has been banned from writing for any ESPN entity, is forbidden from appearing on any ESPN platform, is not allowed to Tweet...

High School Basketball: How many regular season games does your state play?

South Carolina plays a lot of games. My team played 24 of them even though they didn't make the playoffs. Seven of them were tournament games though.
