    NFL 2016-17 playoffs running thread

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks KC's defense is good enough to carry the day if it gets to New England.

    Retirement?

Today is the last day of my three-week break, which consisted of my use-it-or-lose-it vacation days, comp time and holidays. I’ve loved playing golf three or four days a week, putting work-related stuff on the back burner and not thinking about the job for days at a time. I’ve loved it so much...

    2016-17 College Football Bowl-a-Rama thread

No one's going to care on Monday, just like no one's cared since this whole bowl charade started weeks ago. With the exception of the two playoff games, how many games have filled their stadium to more than 50 percent of capacity. Judging by what I've seen, they can be counted on one hand with a...

    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

Merry Christmas to one and all. I should have gone out and played 18 this morning, but I'll play plenty in the week ahead.

NFL week 16 - Steelers only

I wish that picture quality was better; I'm in that shot.

You think you've heard the best John Daly story?

The best JD story I ever heard was awesome and not suitable to be retold here.

UConn soccer player sues after losing scholarship

Is this true? If so, there's nothing to see here; move along, folks.

    The Mixon tape

The first rule of being a self-respecting man is that you don't take advantage of people who can't defend themselves. Mixon belongs in prison. I'm sure the quotes are out there somewhere from the school president, praising his football coach for being such a fine molder of men. This is why so...

    Fix College Basketball

This is a very good point. The last player who had any kind of national acclaim for three years of college was . . . I can't remember . . . Tyler Hansbrough? Reddick? Battier?

NFL Week 15: The Cowboys are in prime time again

If Thursday games stay when the next CBA is done, then I don't want to hear any bitching from players. You have the ability to stop it, then do it. Yes, part of the problem is that the NFL insists on showing teams no one has any interest in seeing.

NFL Week 14: Still no dumb title

About 20 years ago I flew into Boston and hailed a cab. We get no more than half a mile outside the airport and traffic comes to a complete stop on a road that's under construction. The cabbie sits there patiently for 30 seconds, then yanks the steering wheel to the left, maneuvers through the...

NFL Week 14: Still no dumb title

While in the car yesterday, listening to the game on the radio, the "analysts" drove me up a f-----g wall. They're not analyzing anything; all they're doing is looking at the TV replays and spewing lots of homer drivel. And I probably haven't heard a broadcast in a few years; I was surprised...

Your unpopular opinions and creepy admissions

99.99 percent of all the music recorded in the last 15 years is crap. I'm all for deporting as many of the 11 million as possible.

College football 2016 Week 14/championship week running thread

Well, sure, if the primary objective is money and not what common sense dictates, the "leaders" will prostitute themselves as much as they possibly can. We all know that.

College football 2016 Week 14/championship week running thread

Every league/sport I can think of has a playoff system with too many teams. College football's not there with four; it most certainly would be with eight.

College football 2016 Week 14/championship week running thread

I was just thinking the same thing — it's only fitting to be able to go to a bowl after giving up 30 points or more eight times.

NFL Week 13: Insert dumb title here

What would the head coach have done if no players wore a tie on the trip?

College football 2016 Week 14/championship week running thread

The AD at Sacramento State doesn't know why his phone has blown up with teams looking for an open weekend next season. It's awesome that the "best" conference in the country sends a team that wasn't even good enough to make the conference championship game. Clemson had better hope Urban Meyer...

College football 2016 Week 14/championship week running thread

I'm all for this. And while we're at it, let's fix all the others, too. No rankings whatsoever until the first weekend of games in October. That way, we at least move toward lessening the impact of the ridiculous notion of rankings based on pre-season guesses.

College football 2016 Week 14/championship week running thread

Hell of a job in the second half by Penn State. I suspect no one on the selection committee got much sleep, and there's no way they're going home today without getting roasted by someone.
