I’m convinced the Mets are showcasing Semien and Polanco hoping to trade them. The problem is, every time they play, their value goes down. Same with some of those ****ty pitchers

Don't think there are a lot teams lining up to trade for Polanco, who is slashing .154/.206/.231 and has another year at $20 million left on his contract. Or Semien, at .204/.261/.332 and two more years at $46 million total.

Dave Stieb is to 80s pitchers as Dale Murphy is to 80s hitters.

Apart from some control issues (see HBP and walk numbers), he was really, really good at his peak, modern metrics back that up, but he fell off badly at the end.

Two observations from the "pre-game" of the HOF inductions:

- Am I the only one who silently says "He converted" whenever Rod Carew is introduced? Thanks, Adam Sandler, for that one.
- As a Braves fan who grew up during the great '90s era, I love how Bobby Cox's 162 career ejections were highlighted by Jane Forbes Clark during the remembrance of the HOFers who died over the last year. With respect to Cal Ripken, THAT mark might be a true unbreakable record, especially considering how managers now have multiple avenues to appeal bad calls.

The en****ification of America continues: Tomorrow will be the first Monday on record with Jeff Kent in the HoF and Dale Murphy not.
Before Dale was traded to the Phillies, his kids went to my elementary school in suburban Alpharetta. He would often come by the school to greet the other kids and sign autographs, but this was before my sports fandom, and I had no idea who he was. My parents also told me stories of when they were looking to build our family's home in the late '70s, one of the other lots they looked at would've put us next door to where Murph lived.

Only took me about an extra 30 years, once he opened his restaurant across the interstate from Truist Park, that I was finally able to right that wrong and meet him.

Way to make me feel old, Tigers.

Throwing out the first ball at today's game: Mark Fidrych's GRANDSON.
To be fair, I don't think the Bird's lifestyle led itself to a lot of restraint, if you catch my drift.

I remember my Dad was in the NMU marching band in the late 70s and the Bird was the grand marshal of the Homecoming parade and was higher than a kite.

Speaking of the Tigers, who've managed to ruin their comeback thanks to two-strike go-behind homers from the GD Royals off middle relievers on back-to-back days:
