    Sports Editor, Opelousas, LA

It's frustrating, b/c there's a job opening in Thibodaux, and I haven't heard anything from them. I thought my background at least qualified me for an interview (I've worked at bigger newspapers and have a decent resume), but they're not biting. I wish I knew someone at either paper or had some...

    freelancing columns

That's something along the lines of what I'd be looking for, playthrough. I'd be happy writing about youth sports (little league and prep), interesting sports personalities in the community and an occasional (localized) piece on one of the nearest pro teams. It would be a step down from what I...

    freelancing columns

I have, however, noticed part-timers getting an opportunity to contribute weekly columns. But I don't know if I'm up for working 20 hours a week in addition to another job just to make this column come to fruition. As a sports editor, I used to get e-mails from soccer moms and old men from the...

    freelancing columns

That's what I figured. At small to mid-sized papers, the only freelance colunists you typically see specialize in hunting, fishing or distance running. Guess the only way this is going to happen is if I stay in the biz.

    freelancing columns

After six years of working as a sports writer and sports editor (for a small newspaper), I'm considering the possibility of getting out of the journalism biz for a little while. Nonetheless, I'd still love to write a weekly sports column, and I'd probably be willing to do it for very little...

Anyone have an idea of what both sports positions pay? Maybe a range.

    Sports Editor, Lafayette Louisiana...........Again!!!!

I called the Advertiser about the Opelousas position, and spoke with one of the staff writers. He said they were still scrambling to find sports editors for both papers. Can't believe it's taking this long.

While I'm asking questions, would you happen to know anything about the Houma Courier or the Daily Comet? Are these also papers that usually hire from within first?

Thank you very much! I'll give it a try - it can't hurt.

I recently applied for this job. Unfortunately, I'm from out of state and don't have an "in" at this paper. Do the majority of these Louisiana newspapers only hire local candidates? I've gotten really good jobs locally (in the northeast), but I haven't been as lucky in Louisiana.
