Herald to cut about 175 positions

Agreed. Praise him to your heart's content for his early work on preps and whatnot, but not all of us have rosy memories of our dealings with the man. The bullet's story is consistent with what I know. Sad, but not surprising.

No, I get it. And it's a fair point. Those of us who have some inside knowledge can put two and two together pretty easily, though.

I wouldn't have had the guts to post that account. But I have reason -- many reasons, actually -- to believe it. All I'm sayin'. I'm not sayin' I'm glad to see him go. A little piece of me dies with every layoff, actually, no matter who it is.

I, for one, believe "the bullet". I'm not one for kicking a man while he's down, but I had enough negative experiences with the guy -- anger management stuff -- that I'm not surprised. At all. Shain's a whole different ballgame. It's a travesty if he goes. Never knew Sarah.

Our previous paper was a Knight-Ridder joint. Now we're being told that her severance will account for time...

Assistant Sports Editor, Philadelphia Daily News

Would anybody not already located in Philadelphia take this? Good luck finding another job (and moving your ****) when layoffs hit again in four months and you're first to go.

So is McClatchy about to drop the hammer?

Wow, this sucks. That any layoffs are tenure-based is even worse. Good luck to all.

If you left the journalism biz today ....

Yes, at 5.3 percent, I believe.

If you left the journalism biz today ....

Let me add a twist to this question: If you had $100,000 in the bank -- no more, no less -- would it affect whether you'd leave journalism, and if so, how would it affect your next move? I have a friend who is contemplating this very question. She's been in the biz about 15 years and has done...
