NYT reportedly sells off regional partners

Hadn't seen this on this thread, so here's Romenesko's post re. the sale from yesterday. The Q&A is ... ridiculous. http://jimromenesko.com/

Leaving the business fully or not

I freelanced for a lot of websites after I got laid off three-plus years ago, but I was always on the lookout for something full-time in my town. Finally landed in marketing (Internet marketing, actually), and even though I still miss the press box and most of the people, there's no way I could...

    Yet more layoffs in Tampa

"The Times isn't affecting the way the Tribune does business ... the Tribune is killing itself, and quickly." This. Only, I maintain that the Tribune struck its self-inflicted death blow in 2007, when longtime movie critic Bob Ross, community columnist Judy Hill, brilliant artist David O'Keefe...

    Yet more layoffs in Tampa

Re: Yet more layoffs in Tampa (updated 12:45 p.m.) There's another fairly prominent move to news, if info is correct. That's in addition to the preps/GA person. I have no problem with that. It's better than those folks getting laid off. I just wonder how the very few who are left will cover...

    Yet more layoffs in Tampa

Re: Yet more layoffs in Tampa (updated 12:45 p.m.) Another sportswriter has been moved to news. So that makes five writers lost (three laid off, two moved) from what was left of the department. I think that leaves seven writers in sports (give or take). Who in the world will cover the Bucs, the...

    Yet more layoffs in Tampa

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Yet more layoffs in Tampa Moddy - don't know about elsewhere in MG Land. It might just be Florida -- this time around. Turns out three gone in sports, not four (so far, anyway). One person updated the employment status on a social networking site to "Worked" at the Tampa...

    Yet more layoffs in Tampa

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Yet more layoffs in Tampa I think today's round of layoffs leaves the Tribune with a grand total of eight sportswriters. Unfathomable. I might be missing a couple, and I hope I am. But eight? They used to have about 40.

    More layoffs at MG

Early word is four in sports ... so far.

    More layoffs at MG

It has begun. Likely to go on through tomorrow.

    Ominous news at Tampa Tribune

But at least Marshall Morton or Morton Marshall or Marsbar Marshmallow or whatever his name is made $1.98 million in 2010. So he must be doing SOMETHING right, no?

    Tampa Tribune

Moddy -- there were 50-plus on staff in the early to mid '90s under SE Paul Smith. Might be 30 now. Might be fewer. I echo your thoughts on Fabrizio. His misfortune was to be in a GA pro sports position there. Those aren't exactly secure jobs anymore, are they? (Then again, what is?)

    The Soccer Thread (V)

And then the winning goal is offside. Linesman 2-1 Tottenham. Sometimes, the officials really ARE to blame. Then again, Spurs didn't threaten much. Ah, well. Comes down to Liverpool-Tottenham for fifth. Assuming Tottenham's not in seventh place by then.

    RIP Fred Turner (UPDATE)

Re: RIP Fred Turner He gave me my start when I was a 17-year-old high school senior, a 20-hour PT position covering high schools in PB County. That was 1986. Didn't know then how fortunate I was that it was Fred Turner I called and called and called that summer, just to see if they'd made a...
