    Your favorite band's peak

I'm a big Crowes guy, hence the name, and "Southern Harmony" is their "Exile." I'd go one track up and include "Sometimes Salvation" through "My Morning Song" as the ultimate Crowes sequencing of songs. Nothing like that on "SYMM," "Amorica" or "Three Snakes," as far as straight-ahead wailing...

    Favorite guitar riff

"CYHMK" was the song I immediately thought of when I read the thread title. "Sway," also on "Sticky Fingers," is a good one too. (There's really no wrong answer when Keith is involved) Others: "Remedy" — The Black Crowes "Aftermath USA" — Drive-By Truckers "One Big Holiday" — My Morning...

    Worst job you ever had

My brother owns a floor-covering business (carpet, tile, hardwood, et cetera) and I worked for him off and on every summer from the time I was 13 until after I graduated college. The last time I worked for him he got a bid on a new apartment complex — eight apartments in each unit, eight units...

5 for 5: Another music thread

Digging the DBT love. Glad to see that Big Star got mentioned as well. Thirteen is damn near perfect My list, and, yeah, I'll start with DBT (in all honesty, it would be easier to do five each from Cooley, Hood and Isbell) DBT "Let There Be Rock" "Love Like This" "Margo and Harold" "*******...

    Beale St or Broadway ?

Most "guest houses" here in Oxford are better/bigger than my 3BR/3BA apartment — at least for those who I've heard had "guest houses." Another option is Batesville. It's off Interstate 55, which runs straight to Memphis, and is about 50 minutes from Memphis/Tunica (casinos), 20 minutes from...

    Beale St or Broadway ?

What are the dates you will be in Oxford/Memphis or Nashville? Memphis has the Memphis in May music festival during the first weekend of May. Oxford has Double Decker music festival the last weekend of April. Nashville has music all the time, and in all reality Memphis does too. Anyways...

Concerts thread: Best/Worst/Next/Last one you attended?

Shonna and Neff are a couple ... so, there you go. I imagine him staying with the band put a strain on their relationship. Matt Patton is now on bass, and Jay Gonzalez was stepping out from behind the keys and playing guitar some with Neff being gone. Not sure if he's still doing that or not.

Concerts thread: Best/Worst/Next/Last one you attended?

Last: Blue Mountain and Marah shared the stage at Proud Larry's a couple of weeks ago here in Oxford. It was my first time seeing Marah and they did not disappoint. I will definitely check them out the next time they are near. I actually have a pretty good run of shows coming up. Next...

    Nashville trip

The Crowes are one of my favorites as well. Saw them at the Ryman in 2010 and it was a killer show. Tix for the April shows sold out within 10 minutes. Saturday is all electric and Sunday is acoustic with special guests. I was able to pull two floor seats for the Sunday show for $125 total...

Lead sports desk, NE Mississippi Daily Journal (footnote added)

Re: Lead sports desk, NE Mississippi Daily Journal Great shop, great staff and Henry is one of the best to work with/for. I have a great gig now, but if I was even slightly unhappy with my current position I would be all over this. Best of luck to whoever fills the seat and for Henry finding...

    Good Lyrics Hall of Fame

I too am glad to see the DBT/Cooley/Isbell love here. Surprised a few haven't came up though. "Cocaine rich comes quick and that's why the small dicks have it all." — Cooley, "Gravity's Gone" Here's one by Patterson — "Aftermath USA." The song would have been great for the "Hangover" scene...

    Best softball team names

Played on a team called "The Underdogs" that went 0-28 in two seasons. The best team in the league was "The Atomic Dogs," so we hoped when people talked about how good/bad the "Dogs" are they wouldn't know which one was being referred to. At 0-27 we were one out away from our first win...
