As an FYI: Third time in less than a year this job has been opened. Lew Freedman was fired, from what I hear. Don't know why or the circumstances. Recently hired a new executive editor. And don't know if they ever filled the prep coordinator spot they had opened. Make of this what you will.

It's a culture shock for most anyone, even people who live just south in Colorado. But you're right. The weather and isolation are why most stay there at most two years and have to get out.

Curious if the paper lived up to the promise of "all applicants will receive a response?" Bold statement that is good in thought but one better follow through.

They still don't have a sports editor or high school coordinator. The exec leaving happened Monday, so it didn't delay the process. I can only imagine the strain this is putting on the lone sports staffer in Casper and some of the others who worked in sports in the past.

Somewhat of an update: On top of a sports editor and high school sports coordinator, the executive editor quit to take the same job in Billings. Lots of turnover in Casper the last two months.

If you are looking for affirmation, you already got it in your own response. Sounds like this is not the job for you. This is the kind of job with such an intense workload, that unless you are 100 percent certain you want it, you should not apply. Good luck with your decision.
