When I was in college in the early 80s, I attended a campus production of Guys and Dolls. The couple behind me laughed way too hard at the antics of Nathan Detroit. I turned around at intermission and saw it was Steve and Eydie, whose son was playing Nathan.

I was a young child of the '70s, back when they had several variety on the networks, and I would always run across Steve and Eydie on some of them. He also had a great cameo in "The Blues Brothers." And, yes, him and his wife were gold on "The Sinatra Group." RIP

A really good example of someone who seemed to segue seamlessly through various entertainment eras - big band/crooning/tv/broadway/movies/Vegas.

It really is interesting to note though how many popular singers segue into acting. A music career is finite - new generations come along and want to hear their "own stuff." And I'm always surprised when I learn someone from a show I like is an accomplished Broadway performer.

I don't know about that. I just heard a radio ad for the freaking Black Crowes. They're back together and touring after 35 years.

But yeah, the Lawrence/Gorme/Welk stuff is probably aged out by now, but I can still be surprised.

I saw Steve and Eydie open for Frank at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1991. They were pretty entertaining as I recall, not up there with Liza Minelli when she opened for Frank in 1989, but they knew how to work a crowd.
