Maybe the worst quick fire/rehire was Rich Kotite. Fired by the Eagles on Dec. 27, 1994, hired by the Jets on Jan. 6, 1995.

The marshmellow salesman ended up with a fair number of stiches. Dunno that Martin lost that one.

LaRussa -- after inventing the game -- went from the White Sox to the A's within three weeks in mid-season. And didn't he land with the Cards real shortly after leaving the A's?

Imagine how much quicker baseball would have been invented if he didn't go to law school!

I went through a phase of writing "out of bounce" instead of "out of bounds" for a couple of weeks. I've made that mistake too.

    Martin's firing-to-rehiring took 5 days.

Resigned on Monday, July 24, 1978.
Rehired (announced) on Old Timers' Day, Saturday, July 29, 1978.

That's one of those games I'd love to travel back in time and cover. Just watching the footage is awesome. People lose their fucking minds when Martin is announced. Pretty sure a.) an owner couldn't pull that off today in the age of instant media and b.) wouldn't be insane/spontaneous enough to try it.

Did spnited cover that game? He covered Pine Tar, of course, and told that story many times here. Can't remember now if he covered the Martin rehiring game, too.

RIP, old man. You're really fucking missed, you know that?
