    1988. I was part of that youth vote that was really going to make a difference for the first time and sweep Dukakis to victory.

    Dukakis did a whistle-stop tour through my hometown and a few other cities in California and Rob Lowe was among those along for the ride.

    1988, although I do remember going with my mom to vote for Carter in 1976.

    George McGovern for president, and Jack Kemp for Congress. Conflicted young man, I was.

    Kemp wasn't all that conservative back then. (He and Colin Powell were this moderate Republican's dream ticket for a long time. Still are, maybe, although that ship sailed long ago.)

    JFK -- that's John French Kemp -- received my first vote for President in the 1988 primary, during my sophomore year of college, and I wrote him in for the general election.

    2004 absentee. Thank god. The line to vote at the residence hall was three hours long.
