Your Favorite Video Game Ever - Any Format

I loved fighting games, so mine are:

    1. Mortal Kombat

A transcendent game. Blood, gore, the first game
I can think of with digitized characters, Fatalities,
Bablaities, and the great voice of the narrator to laugh at
your opponent (or you) when he/you was almost dead.
This game deserves its own thread.

Favorite character to use: Liu Kang

    2. Street Fighter

Second only to Mortal Kombat for me. Whichever
version is your favorite, this game was the first 'it' game
    for fighting games.

Favorite character to use: Sagat (starting in SF2),
    Zangief

    3. NBA Jam

Being a huge hoops fan, I used to drop insane amounts
of money in this at the arcade in the early '90's. Fun as
    hell, very addictive.

Favorite Team: Can't remember, to tell you the truth.

These are all favorite arcade games of mine. I'll have to think more about the favorite console/computer games?

So which are your favorites? :)

If I remember correctly, John Candy died the day NBA Jam was released as a console game.

Is this favorite game, or favorite three games? I'll follow the established format.

    1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

    Super Nintendo

Just a great game, took some figuring to beat and it was damn clever. And a looonnnggg game.

    2. Metal Gear Solid 3

    PlayStation 2

They perfected the formula with this one. I do like the original Metal gear solid for the PS1, but this one was almost as addictive with a bunch of innovations that stretched the bounds of these types of games.

    3. Mega Man

    Nintendo

The first great non-Nintendo made adventure game for the NES. Never gets old.

Haven't we had a thread similar to this? I don't really read these threads much, but I think I remember a big long thread on video games a couple of weeks ago.

Video games to come ... but my favorite game of all time was "Jacks Open," the pinball game. A quarter could keep me entertained for five hours in the student union building. I turned it into an art form.

    1. Arkanoid. Breakout was the first of its genre, and I wore my thumb out on Atari with it. But when Arkanoid showed up, it just reached a whole new stratosphere.

    2. Donkey Kong. At one point, I had the first 24 screens memorized.

    3. Impossible Mission. An old Commodore 64 game where your little spy ran from room to room, flying over robots shooting death rays to get to computers where you would pick up puzzle pieces. If you got enough puzzle pieces and turned them in the right order in the "five hours" you had (you lose 10 minutes every time you were killed), you'd win the game.

    4. Super Mario World. Kept me going for a long time.

    Ha ha. Good point, Piotr.

I just wanted to put the second and third place finishers, so people knew which were the runner-ups.

Use whatever version you like. :)

spup - If this is a redundant thread, I'm more than willing to consol
-idate it. :) If I remember correctly, the other recent
video game thread was about which console to buy, XBox or
PS3. But I could certainly be wrong, as is often the case.
