"Up Around The Bend" and "Bad Moon Rising" are two others from CCR that come to mind.

    Back In Black - AC/DC
Sultans Of Swing - Dire Straits

A few odd ones, mostly piano:
H.I.M.'s version of "Don't Fear the Reaper." If you've ever wanted to hear Enya rock out...
The Waterboys' "Don't Bang the Drum." You'll get chills from the combination of pounding piano and trumpet...just before a killer guitar kicks in.
Kate Bush, "Wuthering Heights." Used at my wedding.
Arcade Fire...where do I start? You'll find several great ones on "Funeral."
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "The Mercy Seat." Death ballad fully worthy of the Johnny Cash treatment. Also, "Stagger Lee," which Nick swaggers through like a white 50 Cent (and it's just as NSFW any any gangsta rap).

good point, E. Both are great, but I'd have to go with the CCR version.

That China Boy splash at the beginning of "Abacab" does kinda break the silence, eh?

Pete's voice lead in "Dancing With The Moonlit Knight" deserves mention, too.
