Go to the vault, find it (it's really easy) and post the link.

Here's mine on the Boston College point shaving scandal.

Frank Deford's story on Bull Sullivan, the junior college coach from Mississippi who had a run and shoot with four and five wides in the early 60s, and, as Deford wrote, was the toughest coach. Ever. Story had me in tears at the end.

Perhaps not one of those classics, but this Verducci story on Rickey Henderson is probably my favorite of the last seven, eight years. Just enjoyable and fun, and actually pretty educational. It squashed the Olerud story for good.

It'd be too tough to pick a serious one, so I'd go with the one written on Sam Malone, which coincided with the "Cheers" finale.

The Gary Smith story from (I think) 2001 on the black basketball coach in the mennonite town in Ohio.

Here's the link to the Smith story OnTheRiver mentions, "Higher Education." It's fantastic.
