    I agree, and Unforgiven is not just about the ending. The whole movie is fantastic.

    And let me add SHANE to the list. But that could be a bit sentimental since it was shot in Jackson Hole.

    Brokeback Mountain. If Butch Cassidy is a western, why not "the gay cowboy movie"?

    Same thing, different decades

    As Newman said in the VF article about Butch:

    "I don’t think people realize what that picture was all about. It’s a love affair between two men.”

    Oh, also the great anti-western Western, "McCabe & Mrs Miller". May be my all time favourite Altman film.

    Silverado is kind of funny, but as Westerns go, it's about a C-minus.
