I was born the exact same day as Tony Gwynn, probably less than 50 miles apart.

Also sharing my birthday are/were Mike Wallace, Pancho Gonzales, Candice Bergen, Billy Joel, Calvin Murphy, Steve Yzerman, Lane Kiffin, Rosario Dawson and Prince Fielder.

Deaths include C.W. Post, Dan Devine, Alan King, Chuck Daly and Vidal Sassoon.

And I don't know if it's a coincidence, but on the day I was born, the Food and Drug Administration approved the world's first oral contraceptive pill.

    July 12

    Birthdays:
Julius Caesar, Henry David Thoreau, Milton Berle (born on my birthday, died on my brother's, apparently), Bill Cosby, Christine McVie, Richard Fucking Simmons, Cheryl Ladd, Mario Soto, Charlie Murphy, Kristi Yamaguchi and Loni Love! (on the same day I was born).

For the longest time as a kid, I searched baseball cards for birthdays. For years, I was convinced Tony Armas was the only MLB'er born on my birthday. Turns out, his card was a misprint. Way to fuck up my childhood memories, Topps! (Apparently I didn't get any Mario Soto cards)

    Deaths:
Alexander Hamilton, John Chancellor and a bunch of schleps.

    Events:
1550 -- Nostradamus predicts the wisest man ever will be born on July 12 in the Year Of The Bucks. The quatrain bizarrely mentions "Kareem Abdul-Jabbar" -- the only Muslim name in the seer's predictions -- as being related to a mysterious Lou Elcindore.
1551-1811 -- Scholars fearfully ponder that shit.
1812 -- U.S. invades Canada. Take that, bitches! Later, I was deported from Canada as a form of reprisal.
    1813-1942 -- A bunch of bullshit.
1943 -- The Battle of Prokhorovka -- the largest tank battle ever.
    1944-1961 -- More crap.
1962 -- The Rolling Stones have their first concert. Fucking A.
    1963-1970 -- Mostly horseshit.
1971 -- The Australian Aboriginal Flag was first flow-- I WAS BORN!
1972-2013 -- I get presents and get one year closer to death! That ... and at one of my birthdays, I got one of these ...
