Youngest LPGA ever ... NOT Michelle Wie

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Sep 19, 2011.

  1. Anyone else see this?
Lexi Thompson, 16, becomes youngest winner on LPGA Tour. She shattered the previous record, Paula Creamer who was 18.

Thompson is a very good player. But she was quiet, compared the hype that surrounded Michelle Wie's debut.

Just IMO: The sports media chose to continue making Wie a story, thus making her a bigger story as it went on, simply because she was a teenager continually doing crappy in men's tournaments instead of playing in LPGA events.

She had Danica Patrick status there for a while: "Michelle Wie finished 8 over and failed to make the cut."

    Hey-hey-hey-hey-hey-hey-hey.

"The media" didn't force Michelle Wie to keep entering men's tournaments. That was her idiot dad's (and NIKE's) idea.

And she went along with it, too. If there is anything 15-18 year-old girls are really really really good at, it's digging in their heels and saying, 'no.'

If she didn't want to play in the men's tournaments, all she would have had to do was hit 12 balls from the first tee right through the clubhouse windows a couple tournaments in a row, and that would have been the end of it.

And Wie was really good looking.

Well, I was going to observe in a completely complimentary and non-suggestive sense that Lexi Thompson is quite nice-looking too, but ... ooops ....

... the AP beat me to it. In the lead paragraph.

I am sure Uncle Rupert, as a member of the AP Board of Directors, is quite pleased.

Although if he had his way, Lexi Thompson would be golfing in a bikini next week.

In the meantime we'll be waiting for a story on a PGA player (or any other male athlete) to describe them as 'weathered and old.'

  6. BUMP ...
    Tune in ...
Michelle Wie tied for the lead as she prepares to the tee off in the final round of the Nabisco Championship. The tour's first major. She's tied with Lexi Thompson.

Really? You posted this a half-hour ago, well after Lexi stormed out to a four-shot lead at the turn and is in firm control with two to go.

The LPGA wesbite is slow with its scoring update.
