Maybe if the point is that most HS athletic careers do not end in thunderous glory in the final seconds of the state championships, but more or less fizzle out in obscure season-ending district games which will be little noted and briefly remembered, even by the principals, I get it.

They don't end with momentous exclamation points; they just end. Then life goes on.

 

Maybe Browning was weeping because if he had not quit football he
would have been able to have a threesome with his HS English teachers.
