Two London schoolchildren were given detentions for refusing to participate in Islamic prayer in school.

I went to a Methodist school back in England, and as such we were obligated to take theology for three years.

We studied all the religions, including Islam, and had a book that showed us how prayer took place, with illustrations, as with all of the religions we studied. However, we never actually cleared the desks aside so we could actually partake of an instructional session.

In short, I think this is much more about the teacher and his/her methods than it is in any way to do with the way theology is traditionally taught in Britain.

Yup. The teacher screwed the pooch.

If you're gonna teach a comparative religion class you should have a clue how to do it.
