The best NFL Films are the older ones with John "Voice of God" Facenda doing narration. I could watch that stuff all bloody day. The cinematography and Facenda's voice combined is some of the greatest production value of all time.

Facenda: "A Niagra of gold and black... poured down on Roger Staubach."

Facenda had an unbelievable voice, delivery. Here's some proof: Super Bowl XI (Vikings-Raiders) clip...

Is there a bad NFL film?

I caught the Bravest the other night - about NYFD Football team decemated by 9/11 - done by NFL films - tear jerker every time

NFL films CD in regular rotation in my truck - all the music and great John Facenda stuff.

John Facenda quoting "autumn wind " with Raiders theme song in background:

The Autumn Wind is a pirate
    Blustering in from sea
With a rollicking song he sweeps along
    swaggering boisterously
    His face is weather beaten
    He wears a hooded sash
With his silver hat about his head
    And a bristly black moustache
He growls as he storms the country
    A villain big and bold
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake
As he robs them of their gold
The Autumn wind is a Raider
    Pillaging just for fun
He'll knock you 'round and upside down
And laugh when he's conquered and won.

I'm probably the only person under the age of 20 who watches this stuff, but I really don't give a damn. Don't mean to threadjack, but I saw this thing on NBA TV where they showed a video of Bill Russell and Red Auerbach teaching basketball skills. I'm guessing it was made in the late 70's but I enjoyed it.

Harry Kalas' pipes are one small notch below Facenda.

DO you fear the force of the wind,
    The slash of the rain?
Go face them and fight them,
    Be savage again.
Go hungry and cold like the wolf,
    Go wade like the crane:
The palms of your hands will thicken,
The skin of your cheek will tan,
You'll grow ragged and weary and swarthy,
But you'll walk like a man!
