Jeff Francouer is wondering if everyone can just step back and take a deep breath before we do anything rash.

True fact: At no time ever did Francoeur's BA go above .441 (he hit that high-water mark in his 12th game). By Game 27, he was "down" to .388.

Puig's average today, after his 27th game, is .443.

If he goes 0 for his next 31, his average will still be above the current NL-leading mark of .342 by NL leader Yadier Molina.

The hyperbole is warranted in this case. And the facts show it: Nobody in the history of baseball (OK, at least since 1916) has had this kind of start.

This guy deserves it. It's too good to ignore.

Yasiel Puig: 107 plate appearances in 2013.

Jonathan Papelbon: 118 batters faced in 2013.

    Shut up, idiot.

Sure, I could make that case, too. But with home-field advantage on the line, fuck it, I want Grilli, Chapman and Kimbrel out there for 7-8-9 in two weeks.

Fantastic story about one of Puig's defection attempts.

Is he one of the best 27 players (or however many go on the NL roster) in the national league right now? If he is, put him on the team...

How many times have guys been voted onto the team who have been injured for most of the season? I know that's the fan vote, but let's not act like Puig's presence on the all-star team would destroy the pristine reputation of the all-star game. :D

    Fernando's 1981 start: 8 games pitched, 8 wins, 72 innings pitched, 4 earned runs, 5 SHO.

Exactly. This isn't the Hall of Fame. The All-Star game is a sideshow for the fans. Just be happy if A-Rod isn't voted to start.

Put him in coach. He's ready to play.

I hope they leave him out of the game in favor of a senior who has worked hard his entire career.
