How many people at The Stadium saw Yogi play compared to those who watched Mattingly?

Sadly, history is just about lost on the younger kids -- at least those who I know. Mattingly is still a fresher name than Yogi. And if not for those Aflack commercials, they probably wouldn't know Yogi at all.

And when they do video montages of dead Yankees on the Jumbotron at Yankee Stadium, Thurman Munson gets bigger ovations that The Babe. Gehrig, Joe D and The Mick combined.

Mattingly's agent makes it official... he' will not be back as a Yankees coach:

In selecting Girardi, the Yankees set in motion Mattingly’s exit from the team. “Don was extremely disappointed to learn today that he wasn’t the organization’s choice to fill the managerial vacancy,” Mattingly’s agent, Ray Schulte, said in a statement.

“Don will use this time to reflect on this experience while considering future family and career options,” according to the statement. “In the meantime, he did inform the Yankee’s that given the circumstances he won’t accept a coaching position within the organization during 2008."
