Leading internet company seeks experienced editor to head Yahoo! Sports' NASCAR coverage.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years experience managing the NASCAR beat for a Web site, newspaper or magazine, working with and editing writers and assigning stories. Candidate also will possess contacts within NASCAR industry. Online editorial experience, solid writing background, some HTML knowledge is preferable. Bachelor degree also preferred. Must be able to work in a fast-paced newsroom environment and have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.

Responsibilities include working with staff of writers, developing content plans, and assigning, editing and posting stories on the Yahoo! Sports Web site. Candidate must be willing to assist in other editorial tasks within the Yahoo! Sports team. Candidate will work with product team on coverage enhancements and long-term planning while also maintaining site on a day-to-day basis, developing and executing story and package ides, coordinating race coverage, breaking news coverage and feature content. Ability to write headlines and teaser blurbs a must.

This is a contract position on a full-time basis in Santa Monica (willing to relocate candidate). Benefits negotiable.

An educated guess here, but I believe the pay is probably in the 80K range. Not quite enough for that oceanfront apartment, but not bad either.
