    Description:

    FasterSkier Reporter

FasterSkier.com is the premier English-language publication covering elite cross-country ski racing, biathlon and nordic combined in the world.

Internationally recognized, FasterSkier has redefined ski journalism in recent years, and has taken the coverage of less mainstream sports to a new level. We are looking for a highly motivated reporter to join our team for the upcoming season.

The FasterSkier Reporter is a full time position. Applicants should expect to work five days per week in the off-season, and 5-7 during the racing season (November-April).

The Reporter will work closely with the FasterSkier Managing Editor and Executive Editor to create the editorial content of the site. FasterSkier does not maintain a centralized office, and thus applicants need not relocate.

Content creation duties include regular reporting on daily occurrences in the cross-country community, identification of newsworthy topics, and authoring of regular features. The focus of the Fasterskier Reporter will be on breaking news.

The Reporter will work with multiple forms of media, including the creation of regular podcasts and videos, and will assist in the publication of the Start List, FasterSkier’s semi-regular email newsletter.

The Reporter will travel often throughout the winter to North American and European events, and will be expected to work all weekends from mid-November through mid-April.

This position is a great opportunity for an individual looking for experience working as a journalist. The Reporter will be working at a level, that in more mainstream publications, would take years to build up to.

FasterSkier has become an internationally recognized news source, and employees have access to most of the top individuals in the sport, both in North America and overseas.

The work is intense, and at times relentless, but also extremely rewarding. The travel alone is potentially a once in a lifetime experience. Previous FasterSkier employees have reported from, among other locations, Anchorage, Alaska, Hinterzarten, Germany, the Vancouver Olympics, West Yellowstone, Montana, Otepaa, Estonia, Lake Placid, New York, Drammen, Norway, World Championships in Oslo and Val di Fiemme, Falun, Sweden, and Sun Valley, Idaho.

While the Reporter will have many clearly defined tasks and responsibilities, there is plenty of room for pursuing projects of personal interest, and to have a lasting impact on both the site and the sport of cross-country skiing.

We believe in working hard, and having fun doing so.

    Requirements:

    - Strong knowledge of elite ski racing, and a passion for the sport, OR an abillity and willingness to learn quickly.
    - Strong interviewing skills and an interest in investigative work.
    - Excellent writing skills.
    - The ability to work well independently and to self-manage daily tasks.
    - A creative and inquisitive mind.
    - Work well in a team environment.
    - Accept and dispense constructive criticism.
    - Solid digital media skills (audio, video, photo) or the willingness to quickly learn such skills.
    - Good communication skills.
    - The willingness to challenge oneself and push the comfort level.
    - Comfortable working remotely. FasterSkier does not maintain a central office.
    - The Reporter cannot hold another regular job.

    Expectations:

    - Produce 1-3 original news articles per working day
    - Produce regular larger “features”, publishing 2-4 month
    - Provide timely race coverage on most weekends throughout the winter
    - Travel to major national and international events as needed

    Commitment:

We are looking for a two year commitment. Most people take a season to learn the ropes. If you are interested in a single year, we encourage you to apply, but preference will be given to those willing to commit for the longer period.

    Advancement:

Depending on the individual, there is potential to take on more responsibility, including managing additional employees, overseeing larger projects, and participating in strategic planning, particularly in year two.

All FasterSkier staff work as independent contractors.

For more information and an application, please send a letter of interest and resume to info@fasterskier.com.
