Per Reliable Sources, Guild members at the P-G are holding a byline strike.

I'm on the side of the Guild here (and in general), but I've never understood the point of a byline strike, and I can't imagine a work action that would be LESS effective in 2018.

I recall one in San Francisco many moons ago. Always wondered who wrote "Comment" under the sig usually used for Herb Caen's column.

Geez. 12 years without raises. Again, Fredrick speaks angrily. Now you know why writer/journalist is 199 out of 200 on the worst jobs list. The only job newspaper writer beat out was I believe grave digger. No raises in 12 years. Meanwhile the CEO and all the suits?? HUGE RAISES. Anybody who works for a news organization needs to have his/her head examined ASAP.

Fredrick works 80 and gets paid 40. It's the way it has to be.

Studthug doesn't get why anyone would work 80 hours and get paid 40 for any of the suits.

Yeah, the dichotomy of his stance has been pointed out occasionally.
